Thinking Corner - East Timor

Its turbulent history has meant East Timor’s education system was severely disrupted and 80% of the country’s infrastructure was destroyed. When the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste took control in 2002 it was immediately apparent that one of the biggest hurdles to the country’s growth and development was the skills shortage.

British Ambassador to East Timor Tina Redshaw was a friend of Thinking Corner and secured funding for a programme hosted by the East Timor Development Agency. In February 2006 Thinking Corner visited East Timor to appoint and train a team of facilitators to deliver the programme to government agencies and NGO staff working throughout the country.

The visit was a huge success and a strong foundation for future work has been established. There are already discussions on bespoke programmes for the East Timor Police Academy and within the education sector.
