Royal
Mail - Enterprise Pack
The Enterprise Skills
Pack was developed to support pupils in Key Stage 4
in building a range of skills to help them understand
and succeed in the workplace. A series of ‘Lead-in
Lessons’ explore team working, problem solving and
design skills and prepare pupils to participate in
a one day enterprise event.
The main event leads pupils through the research, design
and presentation of a school postal service. A series
of structured activities require pupils to:
• identify possible postal service customers
• consider their needs and expectations
• develop a plan for a postal service for their school
• present their plan to their peers and receive constructive
feedback.
Satellite lessons focus on literacy and numeracy skills,
providing experience of CV and letter writing, analysing
job adverts and matching skills and characteristics
to different job functions. Pupils also have an opportunity
to practise interview techniques and learn the value
of preparation and positive presentation.
The project has been developed with particular reference
to pupils who aren’t taking a purely academic route
and is designed to build both skills and confidence
as they consider their post-16 options.
Teacher Briefing Days.
Working in partnership with Royal Mail Distribution
Centres and Education Business Partnership offices
across the UK, we have been able to present a series
of teacher briefing days on the Enterprise Skills Pack,
giving teachers a chance to experience some of the
activities and to discuss the logistics of running
an enterprise day in school.
