BootsBoots approached us to help them develop a poster to raise awareness in schools of skin care in the sun and the rather delicate issues of head lice and threadworm. As you can imagine, the illustration brief was an interesting challenge!
We had a lot of fun consulting with teachers who definitely felt that we needed to go for the ‘yuk’ factor, and as a result the A1 poster had a really fun appeal that dealt with the issues responsibly but in a light-hearted way. We like to use all the space available in our resources and so on the reverse of the poster we had template letters the schools could use to send home to parents, activity ideas and illustrations of a head louse and threadworm magnified so they filled an A4 sheet. The posters were a huge success and we were soon contacted to update and reprint the poster. In the second version we focused entirely on head lice and threadworm, as feedback had suggested that these were very common and pressing issues in schools. What’s more, everyone wanted to see what a giant head louse looked like! |
