Battersea Dogs & Cats Home
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home already had an active website supporting their work within the community but wished to produce a resource targeted at primary schools to specifically enhance its offering to teachers. They approached Magenta in 2002 to help them achieve this, and working closely with their education team we brought together a specialist team to write, design and illustrate the materials. We also coordinated teacher focus groups to evaluate the manuscript and discuss activity ideas and poster concepts. The result is the fantastic 3r’s for 4r’s Primary Teaching Pack, a fun and creative teaching resource packed with activities covering PSHE/Citizenship, History, Art and Design, and Design and Technology. It is accompanied by two A1 posters focusing on what goes on behind the scenes at the Home and the journey a cat or dog takes from when they arrive through to when they are found a new home. The pack was such a success that in 2005 and again this year Battersea approached us to develop more activities. As a result we have added in two new sections, one for the Foundation Stage and one called Whole School, which contains a wealth of activities that the whole school can participate in together. The pack has also changed from printed loose-leaf sheets to a DVD, which can be used in a PC or in a domestic DVD player. The resource is now a fully navigable PDF which can be easily printed for use in group work and the DVD features four films to support the activities. Another new addition is two whiteboard activities, one for literacy and one for numeracy. |
