Getting Started
If you are considering an education project or programme you might find it helpful to consider some of the following questions before you go ahead.
Who do you want to talk to? There are many potential audiences that can be reached through schools: pupils, teachers, school managers, governors and parents. Is there a particular age range you are seeking to engage?
Don't forget that communication is a two-way process!
What do you want to say to them? It is important to identify your key messages right at the beginning of the project. Are there interesting issues surrounding your messages that could capture the imagination?
Why do you want to communicate your messages? The school community represents current and future customers, potential employees and opinion formers. How can your organisation benefit from talking to them?
Where do you want to deliver your message? Young people can be reached in the classroom, in after-school clubs or in pastoral situations. Which context is most appropriate to you? Do you want a local project with a few schools or a national initiative?
How? What in-house resources and time do you have available to devote to the project? Will you have to source external help? Do you know what budget you have available? Do you need to evaluate the success of the project for internal/external purposes?
